Long time, no see!

Greetings!

Yes, I know it has been a month since I last posted..but I have good reasons. On one level, there's been absolutely nothing going on. On another, I've been fairly busy. Allow me to explain.

At home, while summer doesn't officially start until June 20, the summer holidays start with Memorial Day weekend, the last weekend in May. Here, summer holidays don't actually begin until late July/early August. For kids in school, summer vacation only lasts six weeks (as opposed to the nearly three months we enjoyed). As a result, people go on holiday (vacation) during August. Plus, this is moving month in the British Methodist Church. If a minister changes appointment, even though they don't officially start work until September 1, they are usually asked to be out of the manse by early August. So there's a gap in in circuit for about a month while old ministers leave and new ministers arrive and get settled in. Combining those two factors, the number of meetings scheduled decrease dramatically. Woo hoo! As a result, I've got significantly more free time. I've decided to use it for planning purposes. I'll probably try and do some visiting next week. But this week, I'm recovering from my holiday and taking it fairly easy. Which is both acceptable and expected, I think.

Speaking of holiday, I did just return from mine. I went home! What a trip it was, too. I get tired just thinking about it. We decided I put around 1000 miles on mom's car in the 12 short days I spent in the country...and I never left Missouri! (a pretty big accomplishment over here) When I came over, and even when I decided to stay an extra year, I didn't anticipate making a trip home. I thought I'd use my holiday time and cash resources travelling about the UK and Europe. Then Walt and Abby had to go and get married. Sheesh. So I 'had' to go home for their wedding. ;-) However, I wouldn't fly all that way for just a weekend. So I booked the holiday so I overlapped a family reunion, Lake Creek Campmeeting, and the wedding. I also took several day trips to see folks--former pastors, friends from various stages of life, etc. It was fabulous, but exhausting. I'm still trying to process some of the emotions that surfaced while at home--more things to occupy all this free time I've got!

Now I'm back. Haven't decided what I think about that yet. Will let you know more as I figure it out. This weekend promises to be exciting--I have my first wedding! God help us. So I'll try and let you know how that goes as well as post a few pics of the new place--I have a couch now!! (and word has it I might be getting a piano, too!)
